Vincent Chong recently sent me the chilling back cover for
DIFFERENT SKINS. It still needs the barcode, etc, but everything else is as it will appear on the reverse of the finished book.
Just to clarify, the front cover represents the novella "Even the Dead Die" and the back cover illustration relates to the second novella, "In the Skin". You'll have to read the book to find out how the images tie in with the tales.
Also, if you hit the FREE FICTION! link to the right of this post, you can read my British Fantasy Award recommended story COMEBACK...

awesome!
The back cover image is bloody scary, and prefer it to the front, Gary - Vinny is just the dog's.
Fucked me right off that Gollancz saw fit not to commission him for the mass-market edition of "20th Century Ghosts" - big publishing book-art seems so conservative when compared to the indies.
Vinny just sent me a proof wraparound for Gareth Powell's forthcoming sf novel - truly fucking superb.
Ah, but Chris, the front cover is much more aubtle, less obvious as a "horror" cover. The back image is great, but puts you on more familiar ground.
The front unnerves you because it isn't the standard horror trope.
That is amazing cover art. Love the 'Rain Dogs' cover as well. Good to see some imagination being used when designing 'horror' books. As author, how much say do you have in the selection process?
Thanks for your comments, Lincoln - so far I've been luckily enough to have a lot of input into my covers (both with choice of artists and commenting on their designs).
The calibre of the artists has been such, however, that it's been a case of them sending me a draft and me going: "Wow! That's bloody great!" :-)
And don't think we don't appreciate it!
